If you are a happy owner of a brand new Amazon Fire TV and have no clue about how to set it up and configure it for the first time, you have come to the right place. This article will help you do it using a remote control and smartphone in a few minutes.
How to Set Up Fire TV Using Remote
Once you have unboxed and mounted your Fire TV using the tools provided, plug the TV into a power outlet using the power cord. Then follow the below steps.

1. Turn on your Fire TV using the Power button on your remote control. If the remote doesn’t automatically pair, press the Home button until “Press Play/Pause to start” appears on the screen.
2. Now, press the Play/Pause button & select your preferred language on the Choose Your Language screen.
3. Select a Wi-Fi network from the networks list and enter its password to initiate a connection.
4. Next, you will be asked if you want to Set Up with Fire TV App or Remote. Select the Set up with Remote button to continue using your remote.
Note: If you prefer to use the Remote app, then skip to the section below to continue setting up the device.
5. Once you are on the Sign-in screen, open a browser on your phone/PC and visit amazon.com/code. Sign into your Amazon account and enter the activation code that appears on the Fire TV screen when prompted.
6. Once your device is registered, your Fire TV will refresh and move to the next screen. After signing in, select the Continue button and click Yes on the “Save Wi-Fi Passwords to Amazon?” pop-up that appears.
7. On the next screen, choose if you want to enable Parental Controls. Click the Choose Apps button to select and download the apps on Fire TV, or choose No Thanks to go to the next screen.
8. On the Welcome to Fire TV screen, select the OK button and choose your Profile to complete the setup.
9. Finally, you will be directed to the Fire TV home screen, where you can see all the apps you selected during the setup process.
How to Set Up Fire TV Without Remote
You can also set up and control your Fire TV without a remote using the Amazon Fire TV app. To do this, you should select Set up with Remote and scan the QR code displayed to install the Amazon Fire TV (Play Store | App Store) app on your smartphone. Then follow these instructions.
1. Connect your smartphone to the same Wi-Fi your Fire TV is connected to.
2. Open the Amazon Fire TV app on your phone and allow the required permissions.
3. The app will automatically discover your TV. Then, tap on your TV name and enter the 4-digit code displayed on the Fire TV screen.
4. Now, you can use the virtual remote that opens on the app to navigate and control your TV.
5. Continue the above steps (after step 4) to complete the Fire TV setup using the remote app.
How to Fix Problems During Fire TV Setup Process
Sometimes, you may experience some technical issues that might hinder you from completing the set up of your Fire TV. So, some of the common issues you might have while setting up your Fire TV and the solutions to fix them are mentioned below.
- Can’t pair Fire TV remote: Try moving your remote closer to the TV. Remove the batteries from the remote, reinsert them after 30 seconds, and press the Home button until it pairs. You can also try resetting your Fire TV remote. To do so, press the Left, Menu, and Back buttons together for 12 seconds. Then, press the Home button again.
- Unable to connect to Wi-Fi: If you can’t connect your Fire TV to Wi-Fi during setup, press the Back button to refresh the network list. Or, restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it from the power outlet and plugging it back in.
- Frozen screen: If your Fire TV screen freezes during setup, restart it by turning it Off and On. Or else, power cycle it once. If you are using a Fire TV Stick, try connecting it to the alternate HDMI port.
Once you complete the setup, you can start browsing the existing apps and installing new apps from the Amazon App Store to enjoy streaming your favorite content. You can also make further changes to your Fire TV by navigating to the Settings menu.
