How to Install & Use Web Browser on Sony Android/Google TV
The Sony Android and Google TV models don’t come with a built-in or pre-installed web browser. However, you can install it and use third-party browsers like BrowseHere.
FYI: Browsers like Chrome and Opera are not available on the Sony TV’s Play Store.
1. Power On your Sony TV using the TV’s Power button or the remote and launch the Play Store from the home screen.
2. Click the Search icon and enter BrowseHere to search for it. Once you find the app from the search results, click the Install button.
3. After installing the app, select the Open button to access the browser.
The BrowseHere app is a basic browser that lets you use some of the browser’s basic features. After opening the app, you can use the following options.
- Sidebar: Lets you switch between different sections, like Browse, Recommendation, Movies & TV, and News.
- Search/URL bar: Use this option to search for something on Google or enter the URL and visit a website.
- Voice option: Click the microphone icon to search using your voice.
- IPTV: You can use this option if you want to watch your IPTV content.
- Ad Blocker: Block ads on every website you visit.
- Bookmarks: Save web pages in the Bookmarks section so you can access them quickly in the future.
- History: View and access all the websites you visited in the past.
- Settings: Change Settings like Webpage Ads Blocking, Cookie, JavaScript, and view information about the browser.
- Top Websites: This category shows the most popular websites, like Google, YouTube, Streaming sites, and more.
- Browsing Categories: Under the Top Websites section, you can browse content from different categories like Sports, Trending Now, Music, and more.
How to Use Web Browser on Old Sony Smart TV
Some of the older Sony Smart TV models have a built-in web browser. To access it, follow the below steps.
Note: Default browser is available only on Sony LCD TV models. To get the latest version of the browser, make sure to update your Sony TV firmware.
1. Once you switch On your Sony TV, press your remote’s Home/Menu button.
2. Then, select the Apps/Applications option from the on-screen menu.
2. Click on the Internet Browser icon and launch the web browser. The name of the browser might differ for each TV.
After opening the app, you can start browsing the internet. You can use the following options to do so:
- URL address bar: Enter the URL of the website you want to visit. Or, press the remote’s Option button and select Enter URL to search.
- Bookmarks: Click the Heart icon to bookmark a webpage. You can also open the Options menu and select Bookmark or Add Bookmark.
- Back & Next: Select the Back and Next icons to move between pages. You can also use the Green button on your remote to go to the previous page and the Yellow button to move to the next page.
- Scroll Up & Down: Use the Arrow buttons on your remote to scroll up and down. Or use the Red button on your remote to scroll down and the Blue button to scroll up.
- Reload: Select the Reload icon to refresh the current page. Or, press Option on your remote and select the Refresh option on the menu.
- Zoom: Tap the Option button on the remote and select Zoom to zoom in or out. Alternatively, select the Browser Settings or Show option on the menu and select Zoom.
- Changing Font Size: Press the Option button on your remote and select the Browser Settings in the menu. Then, select the Character size and use the Up & Down arrow buttons to change the size.
Note: The availability of the above options depends on the version of your browser.
